Change is good.

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had an amazing Monday! Some people have this terrible fear of Monday's and how awful they are. Well lets change that opinion! Monday's are meant for fresh starts, productivity, and good choices. They're a way for us to wipe the slate clean and have a new beginning.

Lately I haven't been making very healthy food choices, and I've been extremely lazy. My motivation level has been at an all time low, and I've been feeling super crappy, both mentally and physically.

Today I decided to change that. I signed up for a gym membership, and am finally trying to back into the swing of working out on a regular basis. Am I out of shape? Yes! Did I work my absolute butt off? Yes! That's all you can do. It was time I stopped feeling sorry for myself and actually did something about it.

After my workout I went to the grocery store. I bought lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and other healthy necessities. Once I got home from work tonight I made cauliflower mash with ground turkey and sautéed onions and peppers. Everyone should try it, it was amazing. Oh, and quick trick- when cooking ground turkey, mix in a packet of onion soup. It makes it taste so much better. Seriously everyone needs to try it! I also bought a spaghetti squash to try at some point this week! You know I have no life when I get this excited about grocery shopping..

Hi everyone, there has been a lot on my mind lately and I really need to get some stuff off of my chest. So please bear with me while I try to get my feelings across.

Anxiety and depression are two very commonly diagnosed disorders to people all around the world. I can almost guarantee that every single one of you reading this post right now have experienced one, or the other, at a point in your life. They're looked to as no big deal, just another excuse for us.

Please tell me if I am wrong, but dealing with anxiety and depression is far from easy. Especially when you have no idea what's going on, and why you're feeling the way that you do. When all you want to do is put on a smile, and for it to be genuine and true. Getting out of bed feels nearly impossible, and you just want to give up on yourself.

If you get to this point, please look yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that you deserve better. You deserve happiness. On those mornings where it feels that your emotions are weighing you down, and you're not strong enough to get up, prove yourself wrong. Get up, get dressed, and face the day. Face your problems head on, and stop running. If you need a helping hand, reach out. So many people love you, so many people will fight for you, so many people will support you.

You have potential to change the world.
You are an amazing human being.
You are loved.

Life update!

Long time no talk! Holy cow. Life has been moving at an all time high pace lately and I have had zero to no down time to even collect my thoughts. I certainly think that this blog is a good way to write down what's going on in my head, and just to vent basically.

If you know me personally you'd know that Zach and I got engaged two weekends ago! It's a huge step to take in a relationship but I know we're ready to take life on together. As of right now we aren't planning on getting married until the fall of 2018! That way I can finish school and hopefully find a decent job, and we can save up enough money for the wedding of my dreams!

Speaking of school, goodness I am struggling. School has always been such a sore subject in my book. I really do not enjoy it, and i lack the concentration to sit through a two hour class. I am motivated to finish so I can grow my career in the education field once I graduate, but oh my gosh it is so hard to remember that everyday!

On a more positive note, I LOVE FALL! Western Mass is absolutely breath taking this time of year, and I can't help myself but be completely in love with the fall foliage, freshly picked apples, and the amazing coffee drinks that are out this time of year.

Moving out has also been a huge life event for me. I've never known anything other than living at home with my entire family. Our house in Erving is still my home, but I'm learning to love being on my own.

Halloween was great, and a ton of fun! I love seeing all of the kiddos dressed up in cute costumes. But, I am so ready for Thanksgiving! This year is the first time I'll be hosting "Friendsgiving" and I cannot wait to try all new recipes. Plus Black Friday is a HUGE tradition in my family! My mom, sisters, cousin, and I all go out shopping anytime between midnight and three a.m. It's not even the shopping that I love, but it's putting on Christmas music in the car and singing along obnoxiously, enjoying each other's company, and looking absolutely ridiculous together!

Happy Fall Y'all!

Wow, it's been almost a month since the last time I've posted on here. Time really does fly by, especially when you're having fun! As I'm sure most of you know, fall is coming! Which means a number of things. A new school year is beginning, the weather is starting to cool down, leaves will be changing colors, and all you can do is step back and enjoy everything going on around you. 

Maybe it's just me, but September, October, and November are by far, the best months of the year. Ever since I was a little kid, fall has always been my favorite. Not just because my birthday is right around the corner, but because of all the exciting things happening. New England is in my opinion, the prettiest during the fall months. 

I love everything about the fall season. I love the clothes! I mean who doesn't love big cozy scarfs, riding boots, and your favorite flannel. I'm excited most about wearing my new Southern Proper tartan hat, and getting to break out my darker lipsticks. 

There always seems to be some type of fun activities going on, too. The corn mazes, the haunted hayrides, the bonfires, the football games, and the festivals! 

Fall 2015 checklist:

1. Go apple picking!
2. Try the seasonal drinks at local coffee shops. 
3. Take a day/weekend trip to Boston and Portland.
4. Become as organized as humanly possible!

Fall always brings the warm and cozy feeling along with it, and I could not be more ready!

Camp Sunshine

What is one thing, person, or place that has always motivated you to become a better person? Now some of us may have more than one thing. I know that I do. But the first thing that pops up in my mind when thinking about this question is, Camp Sunshine.

If any of you reading this know me even the slightest bit, I am sure you have heard me talk about Camp Sunshine, or seen the multiple pictures I have taken, and posted in the past two years.

For those of you who have absolutely no idea what I am talking about, here is a little description for you. Camp Sunshine is an amazing place in Casco, Maine. It is better than Bermuda, it is better than Disney World, it is better than Paris. Now whoever reading this is probably thinking to yourself, "Wow this girl is nuts." But seriously, once you go to camp, your mindset is changed forever. Camp Sunshine is a place for children who have life threatening diseases, and their families go to get away from their daily struggles. Think about how many hurdles these families face on a day to day basis. At Camp Sunshine, there are no hurdles, there is no pain. Just smiles, happiness, and yes you guessed it, sunshine.

Now where do I come in? I go to camp to put on a yellow shirt, to join the other volunteers and help these families create moments, and memories, that will last them a lifetime.

The families that I have had the privilege of meeting over the years can be described by one word, brave. They take each day head on, with a good mindset, and a strong heart. No challenge is too big, or to hard. Together, they can accomplish anything. These families have the biggest, brightest smiles.

Sounds amazing doesn't it? Words cannot even begin to describe how great Camp Sunshine really is. The feeling you get when stepping through the yellow doors is like no other. The friendships you create are forever, and the stories you hear are incredible.

One day, seventeen hours, and three minutes, stand between Camp Sunshine and I! But who's counting?

Thankful

Time after time I seem to be finding myself falling more in love with where I live, and New England in general. There is always a new view to see, and another sunset to take your breath away. Beautiful moments seem to be constantly created, and I cannot count how many amazing pictures I have taken in the past couple of days. 


Days like today remind me how lucky and blessed I truly am. 

Today I set a new goal for myself. Everyday I am going to take a picture of something beautiful. This will keep me grounded, and make sure I am constantly giving thanks for the wonderful life I have been given.

Thursday

Hello everyone!

So it's a Thursday afternoon, and I'm sitting in my room listening to my newest Spotify playlist. Ben Rector to be exact, and there are a billion thoughts rushing through my head. The one that has been standing out more so recently, is happiness. When thinking about my own personal happiness, I remember one of my favorite quotes. 

"It's never too late to start over. If you weren't happy with yesterday, try something different today. Don't stay stuck, do better. "

That quote has always motivated and driven me to better myself. Life is too short to not like the person looking back at you in the mirror. 

So guess what? I am challenging everyone reading this. Stop what you are doing, think of something that brings joy to your life, and go do it. Whether it is singing a song, going for a run, or hugging a loved one. Stop waiting for things to happen, and make them happen. Everyone deserves to smile, and everyone deserves to be happy. 

 If you are having a bad day, just remember we are constantly given the chance to start over. It's called tomorrow.

Happy Monday!

Good morning everybody! As I am writing this it is 8:24 am on Monday morning. There are not that many people that I've come across that are morning people. My family and friends tend to prefer to sleep in as long as possible. But, sometimes we don't have that choice. Unfortunately.

All your problems will be solved after reading this blog post! Lately I have trying very hard to eat a healthy and balanced diet. We all know that this can be hard from time to time, especially when you wake up wanting your favorite iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts with lots of cream and sugar, or a frappuccino from Starbucks. They're all delicious, don't get me wrong. But maybe on a daily basis, they're not the best choice.

Here's what I discovered this morning. Brew your favorite coffee at home, mine right now is Archer Farm's coconut macaroon, you can get this at any Target. Pour enough coffee for however many cups you are going to drink. Since it's Monday morning, you mayt need a lot!  Now all you need to do is add about a tablespoon of coconut oil, stevia, and whatever type of milk you use in your coffee. I used almond coconut milk, then blend for thirty seconds or so. There is not really a science behind it, just do whatever feels right. Once your done, pour the coffee into your favorite mug, and drink up! It is seriously so delicious! The coconut milk creates a froth on top, just like your favorite coffee shop, but way cheaper, and so much better for you.

Coconut oil is also extremely beneficial. By consuming coconut oil you will be more energized, boost your metabolism, and strengthen your immune system.

Do you ever get that sudden spark of inspiration? It makes you feel like dancing, getting in the car and driving to an unknown spot, or sinking yourself into a great book.

It just so happens that this morning about twenty minutes ago, I got the urge to write. So here I am.

Time seems to be moving far too quickly. Sometimes it makes me feel as though I need to stop and catch my breath.

While finishing my coffee  I decided it is time to start living my life to the absolute fullest. Day by day I just seem to float around not really getting much accomplished. Getting so caught up in my comfort zone, and not focusing on my own happiness. Being comfortable is nice, but being to comfortable can cause you to lose motivation and lose sight on your own goals. It's funny that while doing something as simple as drinking your morning cup of coffee you have all of these important thoughts racing thorough your head.

I like writing lists. It makes me feel like I am being responsible, and organized. Even though nine times out of ten, after writing the list I either lose it, or forget about it. But, back to my point. I decided to write out my goals for the rest of the summer. They are simple, and some of you may laugh while reading them, but here goes nothing.

Summer 2015 goals:

1. Go to a bookstore/library and search for a good book. Read it. Repeat. Reading always makes me feel at peace, and calms me down. But because I am taking summer classes, the only books that I have justified myself reading are my boring textbooks. I find time to sit on Instagram or Twitter.. I think I can find time to read a book everyday. Even if it is for twenty minutes.
2. Walk. Every single day. My stress seems to disappear after going for a walk, and I feel better about myself.
3. Adventure Western MA and take pictures of beautiful places. It really is so pretty, and I don't think I give it enough credit.
4. Spend more time with my family.
5. Laugh.

My goals are simple, but important.

I'm not sure if anyone even reads my blog posts, and that's okay with me. But if someone's reading this, and you got some inspiration from it, that is all that matters.

Run

Do you ever just feel like you ran into a brick wall? Like everything that you have been working towards is stuck in a stand still, and it seems almost impossible to keep trying? I think we all get to this point a couple of times in our lives. If your name is Michaela Loynd, you have hit this brick wall hundreds of times. But I'm here to tell you that even though it seems exhausting, do not give up. You can do anything that you set your mind to. So what if you fall? Get back up, and run like hell until you reach your dreams. Don't let anyone hold you back, and do not stop until you are proud.

Update.

I've been slacking, I know. Forgive me? You know that feeling when you get so busy, that you feel like you never have time to sit down, or even breathe for that matter? That is how I've been feeling the past couple months. But good news! It's summer! With the many weekend trips I have planned, and one big trip to Disney in August, I could not be more excited!

Anyways, I just wanted to give you an update.

  • I'm taking two summer classes… yay. 
  • Health kick starts NOW! After this past weekend, I desperately need it. 
  • This Friday is our local Relay for Life, and on Sunday I am walking 7 miles for the Eversource Walk for Boston Children's Hospital. My feet will not be happy by the end of this weekend, but at least my Fitbit will!

Just your average Monday night.

If I've learned anything in 2015 so far, it is to appreciate the little things in life. Cooking dinner with your dad, when your boyfriend surprises you with sea glass, or going out to a new breakfast place with some great friends. Far too often I am finding myself just frustrated with not only myself, but the world. It was absolutely beautiful out today. The sun was shining bright as ever, and it reminded me to thank God for everything he has given to me. Even the tough patches. Life is pretty damn hard from time to time. Should we let that get in our way of our happiness? Absolutely not. We need to take that pain and hurt and use it as motivation. So you know what? Do me a favor. Post a picture, tweet, or make a status of something that brings joy to your life, and something you are thankful for, and tag me in it. Spread positivity! Go give one of your family members a hug and thank them for always having your back. When you do that, think of the feeling you get. That big smile that appears, or that "alive feeling" you get, thats what pure happiness feels like. Everyone needs a little bit more of that!

Each piece of jewelry is handmade by this amazing woman from New York. She has been nothing but sweet, and kind to me while I've been in contact with her. The customer service has been amazing and she has been extremely helpful. I cannot wait to buy more!

Her designs are so unique and girly. I love how simplistic and classic the jewelry is, you can easily wear the bracelets on a daily basis. Plus, the quality is outstanding.

Spring style picks!

With this awful, bitter, cold winter we are experiencing, I think almost all of us can say that we're ready to break out our spring dresses and sandals.

So many brands are releasing their spring lines and so far I've been loving them all. Yes, I've already admitted to having a major shopping problem. The pastels, flats, shift dresses, and cute statement necklaces are simple and classy. Perfect for your everyday style.

That being said, here are some pieces I'm so excited about wearing this spring!



These sandals are adorable! Very practical also. The colors they come in will go with just about any outfit, and they're super comfortable.



Personally, I've never worn boyfriend jeans. Not because I haven't wanted to, but because I have no idea how to style them, or how they will look. The concept of stepping out of my comfort zone with my wardrobe kinda freaks me out! Anyways, I think wearing these jeans will give a laid back look to any outfit. But, you can also dress them up by wearing a nicer top, with some cute accessories and maybe, just maybe, some heels! 



Shift dresses are so simple. A staple in anybodies wardrobe. They're perfect to go just about anywhere. Throw it on with a pair of sandals or your favorite pair of white converse, and a jean jacket. It'll be extremely comfortable and effortless looking. This dress comes in two different colors and because I loved the first one so much, I had to buy the second color.




Spring tends to get a little chilly from time to time. These pullovers from L.L. Bean are just enough to keep you warm walkng from class to class, or watching a night baseball game! The material is so soft, and cozy. You'll never want to take it off! Comfort is key in my book.



Bauble Bar has some of the cutest statement necklaces I've ever seen. They come in almost any style you could possibly think of. Statement necklaces add a pop of color to any outfit, and are perfect for the spring months!



Lets be honest, everybody has bad hair days. Or, days where we are just too tired and lazy to do our hair. These Southern Proper hats are just the thing to cover it up! They come in all different colors, but the navy seersucker pattern is by far my favorite!

Late night thoughts.

So with everything that's been going on in my life right now I'm having a hard time trying to process it all, and take it in. Between working two jobs, being a full time student, and trying to maintain my sanity, I feel like the world's passing me by and I can't do anything to stop it.

Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in the moment and get frustrated, or disappointed. But I think what we all need to do is take a couple of minutes for ourselves. Whether it be at night, just before bed, while brushing our teeth in the morning, or while driving to school. Think about all you've accomplished, the goals you've completed, and how far you've come as a person. I think what we all need to do is give ourselves a bit more credit. Life can get really hard from time to time, but we choose to keep fighting, to overcome our battles, and face each day with a blank slate.

I have a favor to ask you all. Tomorrow, go out of your way and do something nice for somebody. Give random compliments. I promise it will make a huge difference in the persons day. You have the power to make people happy, why not utilize it while you can?!

Sunday Funday!

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you spent the day either laying in bed and watching a great show on Netflix, or being productive and cleaning your house or completing a crazy workout!

This weekend has been so memorable in countless ways. I was able to talk to my bone marrow recipient on the phone for the first time. Which, I plan on doing a separate blog post on very soon! And, to top it all off, I had the most perfect Valentines Day ever! Zach surprised me with reservations at The Hotel Northampton. Great food, with an amazing, romantic, atmosphere. Yes, there was dim lighting and candles involved! Could you ask for anything more? My night was completed with a dozen roses and chocolate covered strawberries (my favorite thing in the world). Third Valentine's Day spent with the love of my life, and I couldn't be happier.

Looking back at the goals I set last Sunday, I completed all except for trying the new recipe. I think I'm going to try meal prepping a couple of days in advance. This way I can try some new recipes, but make them in bulk. So I can also be getting lots of healthy foods in my daily diet.

Personally I find it a lot easier to get things done throughout the week if I set a couple of smaller goals, that will lead me to the bigger picture in the long run. What do you guys think?

My weekly goals:
1. Eat a variety of healthy foods. Not the same thing everyday. Meal prep, Meal prep, Meal prep.
2. Choose drinking water over coffee. This will be a constant struggle!
3. Stay positive.
4. Do my homework ahead of time instead of waiting until the last second.

Dreaming of sunshine!

I don't know about all of you, but I personally think this snow needs to melt ASAP! Don't get me wrong, the snow days are awesome, but I can't help myself but sit here and daydream about warm weather, sunshine, and the beach.

Anyways, lets cut to the chase! Homemade lemonade is a summer staple in my book. Unfortunately, we didn't have all of the ingredients at my house, but this will do!

My snow day pick me up:

1. 1 lemon
2. Ice cubes
3. Whatever seltzer you prefer! My personal favorite is blueberry.


Cut up a whole, or half of a lemon. It's totally up to you! Grab a glass, place the lemon slices, ice cubes, and whichever seltzer you chose. Then, you're done! 

Not only is this delicious, but it's keeping you hydrated! Enjoy!

Happy Sunday!

Does anybody else get that crazy burst motivation on a Sunday? You think to yourself that this upcoming week has the potential to be great.

As I write this, I realize how thankful I am for the life I have been given. Of course it has had a fair share of ups and downs, but that's what makes us grow as people, and become stronger, well rounded human beings.

Just this week I've had so many great opportunities.

  • At my new job, throughout the month of February, we are doing a program with our after school kids. Teaching them how completing random acts of kindness not only makes the person who's received the generous "gift" feel great, but it makes you feel amazing inside, and helps build your self esteem. Going out of your way to make somebody smile, is by far one of the greatest feelings in the world. 
  • Early Saturday morning I was able to go to Planet Fitness for the first time, and workout with my aunt. There's something about being up before the sun and already completing a workout before everyone else has woken up, gives you a sense of accomplishment. Starting the day off with a workout, even if it's just 30 minutes, puts you in a fantastic mood (hopefully) for the rest of the day! Of course the post workout Starbucks helps too!
  • Last but not least, yesterday I was invited to a Bruins alumni hockey game with Zach and his family. It was a charity event, raising money for the Ritchie Hockey Foundation. It was incredible to watch them play. Everybody was so happy to be there, and the Bruins alumni were super down to earth, and extremely friendly! Anybody who went got to meet and talk to the players one on one, and get autographs. 


As soon as you wake up tomorrow decide that it is going to be a good day! Decide you are going to be happy, and decide you are going to put yourself one step closer to achieving your goal of the week!

Right off the bat start with a list of goals. Write them down. Make them a priority throughout your week! I promise accomplishing them will make you feel great!

I have a slight problem.

This is what happens when boredom gets the best of me. I mindlessly shop. Yes, I know you all do it too! So this is what's gonna happen. After reading this post you're going to most likely want to buy something. You have two choices! Give into the temptation, or resist the urge. You choose! 

At drugstores across America there are the cutest, countless, Valentine's Day displays. Everything is a shade of classic red or pink. 

Thinking about Valentine's Day also makes you realize just how close spring (hopefully) is! Springtime calls for pastels, and bright lips. 

Anyways, here are my purchases from earlier today! I can't wait to use them all the time. 


The new Maybelline sensational rebel bloom collection is perfect for the upcoming spring months. It'll be easy to add a pop of color to any oufit or dreary day. Not only are these lipsticks completely opaque, but they are creamy and moisturizing. The best of both worlds, I suppose! After trying them out I'm going to have to go back and purchase more! 


A girl can never have too much nail polish. Fiji, being a cult favorite, I had to pick it up. I love the color of baby pink nails. So classy! Hot tamale on the other hand just caught my eye because of the fiery red/orange color. I have a feeling it's going to be a new favorite.

Next chapter.

There comes a point and time in your life when your same, old, daily routine just quite honestly gets boring. A quote I found on Pinterest a couple of days ago really intrigued me. It reads, "The biggest human temptation is to settle for too little". How true is that?! So often we choose the safe option, or the easy way out.

Life is not supposed to be easy. Life is like a roller coaster, some awesome views from the top, then suddenly it drops and scares you to death. Life is unexpected. It is far too short, and at any given moment your world could completely change. 

Each day is a gift! So why are we settling for less than what we know we deserve? We should wake up  each day with a positive mindset, and a full heart. 

My next move is accepting a new job, working at an after school program, and putting in my two weeks notice at a job I've had for almost three years. It is comfortable, and safe. I'm giving up the familiarity for an opportunity I know will open more doors for me in the long run. 

So, that being said. What's something that you have always wanted to accomplish, but have never tried because it scares you? What is your next step? What is your dream?

Goals.

Starting out the year, almost everyone wants to have a "fresh start" and creates a list of resolutions. Yes I'm one of those people that thinks once January 1st comes everything has the potential to be great.

New Years Resolutions:
1. Drink more water.
2. Eat a diet consisting of rich, whole, clean, foods.
3. Read one book a month.
4. Do something active every single day.
5. Sleep.

A lot of us tend to get the "new year, new me" mindset. If that motivates you, then I personally do not see an issue with that. But what we need to remember is that 2015 is just another year. January 1st is just another day. Each minute we are given is a new opportunity to make our dreams come true. We have the ability to change our future anytime we decide to.

That being said I have been doing very well keeping up with my resolutions.

  • I took the step, and signed myself up for the local St. Patricks Day 10k race. 
  • As of three hours ago I've read/listened to two books, both very good I might add.
  • Seltzer water is currently an obsession of mine. My favorites have been Blueberry, and Passionfruit Peach Kiss. Seltzer may not be as good for you as regular water, but cut me some slack, it just tastes amazing!
  • Motivating myself to workout on a daily basis is often a struggle, but every morning I drag my butt downstairs and do at least a half hour on the exercise bike while catching up on YouTube videos, or my favorite TV shows of the moment. Right now it's The Bachelor, Scandal, and Hart of Dixie. 
  • Sleeping has not been an issue. I've been so busy with working my two jobs, going to school full-time, working out, and trying to have a social life wipes me out. An 8 o'clock bedtime? Sounds perfect!
