Detox

Good morning and happy Saturday!

I don't know about you all but weekends are my favorite time of the week. It is such a great feeling to be able to wake up whenever I want, not feeling rushed, and just take some time for myself

This past week I have been pushing myself to eat completely clean and drink lots of water. I think that it has not only made me feel totally energized and refreshed, but it has also been super challenging and fun.

One recipe that I've loved making and feel like I've perfected is a green smoothie. I love them! They're easy and a fast way to get in lots of key vitamin and nutrients you need in a day.

Ingredients:
2 cups of Olivia's organics baby spinach
1/2 cup of water
1 banana (I usually freeze them ahead of time)
1 cup of pineapple



Another super quick and healthy meal I have been loving is making cauliflower mash with sautéed vegetables and ground turkey. There are all sorts of recipes on Pinterest that are available, but I kind of created my own. 

Ingredients:
Cauliflower 
Minced garlic
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Pepper
Splash of milk (I used unsweetened almond milk)

I'm not being specific with the spices because I just usually eyeball everything. You really cannot go wrong. 

Directions:
1. Cut up a head of cauliflower
2. Place it in a microwave safe bowl on high for 8-10 minutes
3. Put cauliflower, milk, and whatever seasonings into blender, and blend until smooth

I had 99% lean ground turkey cooked up ahead of time, and sautéed half of a white onion and a red pepper. I put it all on top of the mash, and it tasted like a healthy shepherds pie. 


One of my goals this year is to cut out drinking a crazy amount of caffeine, because I've become totally reliant on it. Tea has been a total lifesaver for the past week and I've fallen in love with Tazo's refresh mint tea with fresh cut lemon! Seriously everyone should stop what they're doing and go try it!

Sunday morning coffee!

Good Morning everyone!

I don't know if there is anything better than waking up in the house you grew up in, going downstairs to make a fresh pot of coffee, and sitting in your favorite chair looking out at a beautiful morning sky. Sometimes all you need is a little time in a place you love for all of your problems to seem minuscule. The little things in life truly do mean the most. Sunday mornings are by far one of the best moments of the entire week, and I am truly thankful for being able to enjoy this one.

Tomorrow begins a new and busy week. What are you going to accomplish? What's the first thing on your to do list? Make a plan! It's time to be successful!

I have high hopes for this upcoming week. I get to substitute teach all week and be surrounded by the worlds cutest preschoolers, and I am also attending a yoga class with one of my favorite people.

2016!

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope everybody reading this had a safe and amazing New Years Eve! Some of you may be perfectly fine this afternoon, but if you're feeling a little under the weather I totally sympathize for you.

I'm going to do a totally cliche blogpost this afternoon… The highly overdone new years resolutions. I know so many people have super long lists of wants, to do's, and goals for this upcoming year! I also want to recap the best moments of 2015! It was a great year filled with many memories.

Here goes nothing!

1. My biggest and most important goal for this upcoming year is to be HAPPY! I've realized that my happiness, my health, and my self worth is by far the most important thing.

2.  Happiness and health basically go hand and hand. Your mental happiness has a huge effect on your health. That being said my next goal for 2016 is to become the best version of myself. I want to be both physically and mentally healthy. Sometimes in order to accomplish that you need to really dig deep and notice what truly upsets you. Whether it be a person, a place, or something else. If they do not contribute to your everyday health and happiness, why are they a part of your life? Why do you let those things hold you down? They are only suffocating you because you are allowing them to do so. Get rid of the toxic people. They're only going to drag you down, and you deserve so much better than that.

Once you are mentally healthy, physical health comes into play. This year I want to eat more vegetables, go on more hikes, try yoga, and drink more water. I want to become the best version of myself both mentally and physically.

3. The third goal I have for myself is to appreciate the people all around me a lot more. Make time for the important people in your life. Randomly tell someone that you love them, send an uplifting text, buy flowers for them just because. Being kind is so important. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle and you going out of your way to put a smile on their face is something they may never forget.

4. I want to continue to help others. Volunteering is going to be a huge priority of mine. I am going to do more work with Be The Match, and hopefully host a few more bone marrow drives. It is so important that the message gets out there that taking twenty minutes out of your day to swab your cheeks could save somebodies life in the long run! I am also hoping to start a Love Your Melon campus crew at GCC. So if anybody is interested please, please, please let me know. Last but certainly not least I want to attend as many camp sessions at Camp Sunshine as I possibly can. The friendships you make, stories you hear, and smiles you bring to children's faces last a lifetime.

2015 has been a HUGE year for me. At twenty-one years old I got engaged to my best friend in the entire world. I met my bone marrow recipient, Wesley, and I now look to her as a sister and forever friend. I completed my first full year of college successfully, and hope to continue on with my degree to one day become a Kindergarten teacher, and change the lives of little kiddos all around me. The memories I have created this year were utterly life changing and I am so thankful and blessed for each and every one of them.

Day 1 of 365! You have a whole new chapter to write, whats going to be next in your story? Make this year great, and accept each opportunity with a open mind and full heart.
