Healthy Mindset 101

Happy Friday! Can you even begin to wrap your head around the fact that summer is almost coming to an end?! Jeez Louise.

I've had a lot of people approach me this past week and ask, "how are you always so positive?" Well first of all, ask my family, I'm definitely not always the most pleasant person in the world. My attitude is not stellar 24/7, and I have my fair share of bad days. BUT, one of my goals is to put my best foot forward when feeling frustrated in certain situations.

One thing I've noticed that helps a ton with my overall mindset is exercise. It doesn't have to be a two hour gym session, but move. Move for fun, move in strength, and always honor and cherish your body for all that it can do. When you start treating your body as though it's a temple, good things start to happen.

Meditation is something I've tried getting into for months. My mind doesn't like to slow down, and is constantly racing all over the place. Recently I've downloaded the Headspace App and have found myself really enjoying the quick three minute guided meditations. I think with the crazy world around us and and the constant go, go, go, mentality we all have, it's important to slow down every now and then. Even if it's just for a couple minutes.

Chose "your people" very wisely. The energy of others quickly becomes the energy you give off. When you're around negative people, you tend to start giving off negative vibes as well. Unfortunately most of us don't realize this until it's too late. Surround yourselves with loving, kind, motivational, strong, individuals who push you to be better and won't put up with anything less.

Make time for YOU. It's crazy how often I hear people say that they really want to do something but won't because they're alone. Go by yourself. Allow yourself to enjoy your own company. Use that time to reflect and explore the world around you.

Once you start prioritizing who you are and who you want to become the universe has a very strange way of working things out. Remember to keep faith, remain strong in difficult situations, and always stand tall.

Skincare Tips and Tricks

Hey sweets!

Today I wanted to do something a little bit different on the blog. As you all might know, I'm done with my esthetics program at Catherine Hinds this week. Saying I'm excited would be an understatement! I cannot wait to begin my esthetics career and help each and every single one of you learn more about your skin and show you the best and most effective ways to take care of it.

First let me start off by saying your skin is the largest organ in your body. Wouldn't you think that because it's the largest organ we would be putting more effort into taking care of it? A lot of people don't know where to start and feel intimidated when buying or testing out new products. It's all a learning process and everyone's body reacts differently. My biggest goal is to help you feel more confident and comfortable when approaching your skincare routine.

Personally I think it is SO important to take care of yourself starting from the inside and working your way out. What I mean by that is eating a clean and balanced diet. Only consuming products that are whole and nutritious and really paying attention to what you're actually putting into your body. Exercising on a normal basis, and prioritizing your mental health. Drinking the recommended amount of water for your body type is crucial to not only helping your skin, but all parts of your body. I should be drinking anywhere from nine to eleven and a half cups of water a day. Am I doing that? No, not religiously, but when I do I see a huge difference in the appearance of my skin and in my overall health. The top layer of your skin regenerates itself every twenty-eight days give or take. That being said, if you're not properly taking care of yourself that number tends to slow down which means you tend to start seeing fine line and wrinkles a lot faster as well as having a dull appearance to your skin.

Some tips and tricks I've learned since being at school is to get your skincare routine down. Find products that work for you and stick with it. My recommendation is to use a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer twice a day. Once when you first wake up in the morning and once before you go to sleep. Another important step in your weekly skincare routine is to exfoliate one to two times a week. The amount of dirt, debris, and free radicals your skin is exposed to on a daily basis is mind blowing so you want to make sure you're properly cleaning your skin frequently. Make sure you're changing your pillowcase, as well as cleaning your phone religiously. Think about how much bacteria builds up on those two surfaces, and then think about how often they're in contact with your face. Please make sure you're removing your makeup before bed! Not only could it cause your skin to age more rapidly but it also clogs your pores which leads to breakouts. My last tip for you is to find yourself a lovely Esthetician! It's our job to help get any problems or concerns you may have under control and assist you in getting to a point in your life where you feel comfortable and confident in the skin you're in!

Life Update - August 2017

Hey babes!

With summer quickly coming to an end I have SO much to fill everybody in on.

My first set of big news is that in three, yes I said three, days I will be done with school! The decision to start esthetics school was one of my biggest/best moves I have ever made. I'm absolutely in love with the industry and can't wait to begin my career. Before I do that though, I just would like to say a HUGE thank you to those of you who have supported me throughout this insane roller coaster of a journey. I won't name names because then this post will turn into an emotional mess, but it's been one heck of a ride and I'm incredibly grateful for those of you who have had my back for the past couple of months.

Secondly I want to announce that I will be working as an Esthetician at Glow Beauty Bar at both their Hadley and Turners Falls locations. Words cannot even begin to describe how thankful I am for this incredible opportunity and I'm beyond excited to be a part of such a wonderful team! So please do me a huge favor and come see me for a facial, wax, makeup application, and once I get certified, lash extensions!

Trying to maintain a normal life the last few months has been pretty challenging, but now that the finish line is in sight I am starting to get more and more excited for the new chapter I am about to begin.

In the past I've tried to make myself as transparent as possible so that everyone knows I'm just your normal/average girl and have goals/dreams I'm working towards too. So without further ado, here are the next set of things I'll be working on ASAP!


  • Become yoga teacher certified 
  • Creating better content for y'all (new videos/blogposts)
  • Work on getting my healthy lifestyle back in check
  • Finish wedding planning

I love you all endlessly and am beyond thankful for your love and support throughout this crazy thing we call life. I hope you're all having a wonderful summer and are doing well.

New Chapter

Tomorrow morning at 6:30 a.m. I'll be walking out my front door to begin the two hour commute to Catherine Hinds Institute for Esthetics.

For those of you who didn't know I enrolled at Catherine Hinds, surprise! I start school tomorrow, June 5th, and will be done at the end of October.

Ever since I was a child I've always thought about pursuing a career in the health and beauty industry. Twenty-two years later and I'm finally following my dreams!

Let's get to the point, shall we? I think that it's SO important to trust your intuition and go after what you truly want in life whether you're ready or not. I'm continuously reminded of just how short life is, and how each day is a gift. It's time to rise to the challenge, overcome your fears, and create the life you've always imagined. Stop waiting for the perfect moment because it's never going to come, just do it! If you've been waiting for somebody to tell you to go for it, here's your sign! Take the leap of faith, and everything else will fall into place.

Prayers and good vibes will be very much appreciated over the next couple of months! I know this process will be tough, but I know that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. The overwhelming support of my loved ones throughout this decision/process have been incredible and I'm so thankful for each and every single one of you!

Long time no blog. Hey guys it's me. Yes me, Michaela Deborah Loynd. Jeez, don't you just love when your life gets SO busy/hectic that you don't have time to do what's important to you? No? Ya me either! So I'm about to change that.

More so recently I've really been trying to focus on my future and doing what's best for me. There are some huge risks I'm about to take, and quite frankly it's a little scary. That being said, I'm going to do it anyways. YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF TO TAKE RISKS, STEP OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE, AND LIVE THE LIFE YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED. Harsh, I know. But SO true.

Typing this right now is very hard. I really don't even want to admit this to myself, let alone all of you. One thing that has always gotten in my way are other people. But guess what? You cannot allow someone else's insecurities to seep into yourself. Gosh I've never heard something that has ever hit me so hard until I heard that quote this morning while listening to the Honestly Uncensored Podcast. To be completely honest and real with you, I can almost guarantee that I've lived every single day of my life, up until now, doing just that and it's time to stop. It's time to take off my training wheels and stop being afraid of the unknown. It's time to pedal as fast as I can towards the rest of my life and I'm not looking back for anything.

Your life, your goals, your future, they do not have to make sense to anybody else. So do yourself a HUGE favor and stop looking for confirmation from other people. The only person you should be listening to is yourself. That's it. GIVE YOURSELF THE DAMN WORLD and don't apologize. It's okay to be afraid, it's okay to feel nervous, but never let that stop you. If you don't make this happen for yourself nobody else will.

Keeping It Simple | Nut Butter

Alright y'all.

Happy snow day first of all! Can you believe that we are getting this much snow in March?! Jeez Louise. I'm definitely ready for Spring to be here, what about you? Anyways... let's get to the point of this post shall we?

Ever since coming home from Aruba and trying to detoxify my body from all of the unhealthy food I ate and alcohol I drank, my diet has solely consisted of simple and whole foods. Lots of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, and whole grains. This change of "diet" so to speak sparked a really fun and exciting idea for my blog. I want to share my favorite SIMPLE, easy, and quick recipes, hence the title "Keeping It Simple".

Even better then the great idea I had, when I walked into work after coming home from vacation my coworker and friend Amber gifted me her fourteen cup Cuisinart Food Processor. How generous! So obviously a ton of super fun recipes instantly popped into head, and I thought I would share with everyone.

Since I had a snow day I had ton of time this morning to play around in the kitchen, one of my favorite things to do! Peanut Butter has easily always been one of my favorite foods. Basically one of my main food groups to be totally honest. A lot of my favorite Instagramers and bloggers have been talking a ton about mixed nut butters, so that's what I decided to try making today.


This is new to me, clearly. It took me like twenty minutes, plus Zach's help just to put the cover on. But lets get into how I made nut butter in less than ten minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of cashews
  • 1/2 cup of almonds
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
Directions:

Pulse for around 4-5 minutes until mixture is smooth and creamy. Place nut butter into a tightly sealed container, and refrigerate until you're ready to eat. Enjoy!

Healthy Lifestyle Tips And Tricks

Hi babes!

Since winter has over welcomed its stay this year, at least in my opinion, I wanted to share some of my favorite go to tips to stay as healthy and happy as humanly possible!

1. ELDERBERRY SYRUP

I capitalized it because holy moly does it work wonders! My friend Sophia ChillĂ© recommended it to me months ago because apparently it's huge in Maine (where she's from), and her family takes a teaspoon of syrup everyday to help fight off any cold/sickness that's heading their way. When I had started taking it I was only using it when I was feeling a cold come on, or once I was already sick. It definitly helped with my symptoms, but I highly suggest taking it everyday and making it part of your daily routine.



2. Water, water, and more water.

Everyone always says, drink water, you'll feel better. Guess who never listened?! That's right, me. Not only does water help flush out all of the toxins in your body, it boosts your energy levels, helps strengthen your immune system, and clears your complexion. Who doesn't want that?! I've lessened my coffee intake (crazy I know) and try to drink as much water as possible. 

3. Probiotics.

I never really understood why everyone was so into taking a probiotic. That was until I started taking them. Our body gives us huge indicators that it's not happy. Usually the first two signs come from your gut, and your skin. I highly recommend the HUM Nutrition Gut Instinct probiotic, but if you aren't willing to spend the $25 a bottle, there are many other options out there! Another delicious way to sneak probiotics into your diet is Kombucha. Yum! My favorite brand is Health-Ade, and I love the Pink Lady Apple flavor. 


4. Move your body!

Seriously guys, working out doesn't have to be a miserable thing. Being active can be super fun and enjoyable once you find something that works for you! As I'm typing this I'm waiting for my sister Jess to come over so we can go to the gym together! If I can give you one tip of advice it would be to have somebody to hold you accountable! Find a gym/workout buddy to make sure you're actually following through with your plans to achieve your goals. 

5. Spend time with people who encourage you to be the best version of YOU.

Stop surrounding yourself with people who consistently drag you down and make you unhappy. It's perfectly okay to say no. Start saying no, start having your own best interest in the back of your mind at all times. Make sure that the people you're spending the most time with love you and support you ALWAYS! If you feel as though you don't have that, reach out. Find those who will honor who you are and motivate/inspire you.

I had every intention to post my healthy life hacks blogpost today and I'm still going to publish it later on this week, but my hearts telling me I need to get vulnerable on this super snowy Sunday afternoon.

Body image issues are something I have ALWAYS struggled with. I could almost guarantee that each and every single one of you reading this have as well. It's an everyday fight against somebody who is supposed to be your biggest supporter, motivator, and best friend. Yourself. How exhausted do we have to make ourselves before we see that fighting the person who's looking back at you in the mirror is a waste of our time? How many times do we have to jump up and down forcing ourselves to fit into a ridiculously tight pair of pants because of a number on the tag? How many times will someone have to tell us that we are so beautiful until we stop denying it? How many times will we choose to wear a t-shirt at the beach because we're ashamed of the body underneath? Ninety-one percent of women hate their bodies. When will this war end?

Body shaming is so real and so present in our everyday lives. Instead of giving those people power, I challenge you to counteract their negativity and spread love. Spread so much love that everyone around you knows just how wonderful they are. Be the reason that your daughter stands strong and holds her head high while dancing, singing, playing, running, or jumping. Tell your friends that they look gorgeous with or without makeup on. Encourage your sister to wear a bikini. Make sure your mom knows just how beautiful she is each and every single day.

YOU ARE SO UNIQUE AND RARE. YOU ARE SO UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE STRONG. YOU ARE IMPORTANT. YOU ARE SO LOVED.

Dani Leah Waterman // The Village on Main

Rise and shine my loves! Happy Sunday!

Today's blogpost is something I'm super excited to share with all of you! As some of you may or may not have noticed, in the past week I've talked a little bit about a photo shoot that I was part of last weekend. Now that everything is finally finished, I can talk more in depth about it.

So long story short, Dani Waterman is a hair genius. One day during break at work I was scrolling through my Instagram stories and happened to click on the Igers413 account. They posted about a local hairstylist needing hair models and photographers to work with on an upcoming project, so I reached out and said that I was definitely interested. Dani got right back to me saying how thrilled she was that I wanted to collaborate so we set up a time and date for me to go to The Village on Main.

When I tell you that The Village on Main is absolutely perfect, I mean it whole heartedly. The atmosphere is so relaxing, the women who work there are all so beautiful and talented, and once you step foot in the door you'll never want to leave. One thing I look for when going to a new salon is how each stylist presents themselves. I think your overall look says so much about you, especially working in the hair and beauty industry. Each and every single one of these women had incredible personal style. They all had a unique and fun look and I think that's SO important. I would go back to the salon just to get outfit inspiration! Another thing that stood out to me is the overall feel of the salon. It has a very minimalistic and modern feel to the space which I absolutely adore! The Village on Main is a salon I would highly recommend to anybody if you are in search of something new.

Now lets talk about Dani. Okay first of all, walking into a salon full of people you've never met, including the woman who's about to do your hair is pretty intimidating. Right off the bat she made me feel so comfortable! We talked a little bit about what she was going to be doing to my hair, and for the next two hours we talked about anything and everything. Dani explained to me that the reason she needed hair models to work with is because she's actually moving to New York City in the next month or two. I'm sure everyone knows just how competitive NYC is in all aspects, so she wanted to make sure her portfolio and website are up to par when going and interviewing for different jobs! How amazing and brave is it that she's packing up all she's ever known in Western Massachusetts to chase after her dreams in the Big Apple?! So inspiring!

When it came to my hair, the main focus of this entire post, I am so beyond happy with how everything turned out. Dani used a balayage technique on my hair, which for those of you who don't know is basically just free hand painting. I absolutely loved this method of coloring because it was so satisfying to actually be able to see exactly where the product was being placed, and I could tell just how blonde it was going to turn out. Once all the steps were taken, and she was finally done coloring and cutting my hair, Dani used an Olaplex treatment on my hair which helps strengthen and repair any bonds that have been/were broken during the coloring process. I was also given a bottle to take home and use once a week! How generous! I've already noticed a huge difference in my hair with just the two treatments I've done so far.



Let's talk photo shoot! The morning of the photo shoot I met up with Dani so she could style my hair and do my makeup. Her vision for the shoot was to have it be like an everyday girl in the city, but a little bit edgier. Rachel Franz was the incredibly talented photographer that worked with us, and she went to town, snapping photos left and right, telling me where to go and what to do with my body. The three of us worked together so seamlessly it was as if we had done it hundreds of times. All in all I am very pleased with how the photo shoot went! Dani and Rachel were exceptionally helpful when it came to giving me poses, telling me where to look, and making me feel comfortable.

YouTube Channel

Good morning everybody!

It is currently 10:30 am on January 22, 2017. As some of you may know I've been vlogging the past month or so. Having my own YouTube channel is something that I've always wanted to do since I was in middle school watching beauty tutorials for hours on end with my friend Erin. Personally, I would much rather sit down and watch a vlog than a TV show, and I thoroughly enjoy watching other people's content that they are pouring their hearts into every single day.

Becoming a successful YouTuber is a full time commitment. People spend their entire lives working their butt off just to create good quality content for their viewers. Even though I'm just starting out, I have come to the realization that a fresh start is exactly what I need in order to rebrand myself, and make my channel exactly what I want/need it to be.

For those of you who have already subscribed to my old channel, thank you. Thank you so much! Your support is amazing, and I'm very thankful for each and every single one of you. That being said, I am going to start over. The url linked to my channel now is one I created literally ten years ago (iwanttobeacitygirl). It's actually quite hilarious even just looking at it. It's like one of those terribly embarrassing emails you made for yourself in elementary school, everyone's got them! So... I'm starting over. As soon as YouTube will allow me back in to create a new channel, with a new name, I will let you guys know and that way you can follow that account from here on out. I'm looking forward to where this journey will take me and thank you in advance for your patience!

Rise and shine my loves! 

My beautiful friend Danielle sent this quote to me last night because the second she saw it, she thought of me. First of all THANK YOU! Thank you for thinking of me when reading this incredible quote (such a huge compliment), and thank you for sending it to me. Do me a favor and read it out loud. Read it to yourself. Scream it if you have to. 






It seems to me that on a daily basis I, along with many others, forget my worth. But my question is why? Why do we consistently forget just how wonderful we are?! You can move mountains. Always remember that. 

EACH DAY WE ARE GIVEN HERE ON THIS EARTH IS A GIFT. When you wake up each morning think of it as the universe handing you a big present with a bow on top. A second chance. Another opportunity to chase your dreams, tell someone you love them, run three miles, eat your favorite ice cream, learn how to ice skate, start a YouTube channel, hop on an airplane to your dream vacation, dance in the rain, take a photography class, etc. Do it all now, while you have the opportunity. Do it all now, so you won't have regrets. 

Stop putting yourself second. You my dear are SO INCREDIBLE. You have all the power in the world to chase after your dreams, and if you don't want to do it for yourself, do it for me. Do it for your daughter, or your sister, or your best friend. Make the decision today that YOU ARE WORTH IT. You are worth every ounce of happiness that achieving your dreams will bring you. Take the jump. Its okay to not know the outcome of every situation. That's why you have ME. I will support you. I will love you, and I will tell you that you deserve this.

Burning Heart Studio

Happy Saturday babes! 

A lot of you have been asking me since my last post was published what my favorite ways to put myself first are. I'm here tonight to tell you about one specific place that always allows me to do so. 

One thing that really helps me keep a clear mindset and a positive outlook on life is exercising. So if you've been keeping tabs on my life the past couple of months you will have known this already, but I FREAKING LOVE BURNING HEART! For those of you who don't know what Burning Heart Studio is, stop reading this, yes I'm giving you permission to stop reading my post, and go check out their website or Facebook page

I'm saying this with all sincerity, if you try a Burning Heart class your life will change in forty-five minutes. The teachers who lead you through these intense classes make it FUN! Yes, I said fun! The people on the bikes/mats next to you support you through every minute, and afterwards you feel like you could take over the world. 

Please do yourself a favor and sign up for a class. If you're nervous simply say so and do it anyways!

The Self Love Club

Happy New Year my loves!

I have some VERY exciting news. This year I will be teaming up with my good friend Adrianna Whalen on a project we have been working very hard on for the past couple of months. Drum roll please! We want you to join us in The Self Love Club!

The Self Love Club? What in the world is that?! Well, let me explain. Who's tired of not feeling there own personal best? How many of you keep putting your goals on the back burner? Are any of you not happy with who surrounds you on a daily basis? Adrianna and I are here to help guide you through making tiny changes in your everyday lives to become a happier and healthier version of you. If you choose to follow alongside us in 2017 I can almost guarantee that we will all have a more positive mindset, learn coping mechanisms to move past the stressful/sticky situations that present themselves as the year moves forward, and to most importantly become your own best friend.

First things first. Lets talk about resolutions. A lot of people don't see the point in making New Year's resolutions and that's totally fine, but I always love to set my intentions for the year right away! Making lists and writing each resolution out helps me to see the entirety of each goal, and work harder to make it happen.

New Year's Resolutions:

1. Stop comparing myself to others and accept myself completely.

This goal is my number one resolution I hope to accomplish this year. I'm always telling people to love themselves for who they are, flaws and all, now it's time for me to practice what I preach.

2. Put myself first.

3. Learn how to step away from the screen. I need to start putting my time and energy into activities that I thoroughly enjoy (reading, yoga, cooking). Basically I want to push myself to be more present in any given moment, instead of mindlessly scrolling through my phone.

4. Focus on the good.

There are wonderful things that are happening every single day. There are incredible people that love and support me, always. In 2017 I will learn to concentrate on the amazing things that are going on around me, rather then succumbing to the stress.
